Get ready for 100+ new codes!

2012 is coming, and clinical laboratories are faced with quite possibly the biggest rewrite of laboratory codes in several years. On the horizon: more than 100 new procedure codes used for genetic testing and molecular pathology. Will your facility be ready? Now available on CD/On-Demand, our laboratory coding expert, Robin Miller Zweifel, BS, MT(ASCP), discusses what lies ahead for 2012 and what you should be doing to prepare. Highlights:

  • New, deleted and revised laboratory codes for 2012, including the potential for 100-plus new procedure codes for genetic testing and molecular pathology, as well as possible changes to drug screening codes
  • The latest insights into how CMS plans to implement these historic changes and how payments (technical and professional) will be affected
  • How to interpret the physician fee schedule, which will contain the new genetic testing and molecular pathology codes
  • Significant updates you will need to make to your chargemaster and software interfaces
  • A review of basic concepts, covering the laboratory vs. physician fee schedule, method codes and unlisted codes, proper use of modifiers and more
