The more you understand the anatomy and physiology of the heart and great vessels, the easier it is to interpret physician documentation and assign accurate coding. In this webcast youll review the anatomy of the heart, identify locations of major arteries and veins, and review synonyms for the great vessels, chambers, valves and valvular structures.

Youll examine the differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding through pertinent examples like this one:

A patient with a PTCA on three coronary vessels and a stent placement. ICD-9 uses two code numbers: 3605 for multiple vessel PTCA or coronary atherectomy and 3606 for insertion of coronary stents. ICD-10 uses one code built up from tabular representation: 02725DZ for dilation three coronary arteries, percutaneous intraluminal with intraluminal device.

Webcast host Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey, RHIA, CPC, CHA, will help you:

  • Expand your knowledge of the heart and great vessels
  • Master key components of anatomy and physiology to support classification assignment
  • Identify anatomic and physiologic keys that affect AHA Coding Clinic Guidelines, RAC denials and physician documentation variances
  • Increase your coding accuracy under ICD-9 and prepare for the transition to ICD-10

This is webcast #1 in a 3-part Anatomy & Physiology Coding series.
