There are many complexities around accurately coding procedures involving the thyroid and parathyroid glands. After all, the endocrine system and the hormones it release affects nearly every cell, organ and body function. If you dont understand the endocrine system, you can miss information and compromise your coding accuracy.
The transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will require more detailed coding specificity. Youll study examples of these changes during the webcast. For example, ICD-9 offers one code for hypoparathyroidism, while ICD-10 differentiates between idiopathic, postprocedural or other, and drills down to the secondary diagnosis, comorbidities or major complications/comorbidities.
Webcast host Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey, RHIA, CPC, CHA, will help you:
- Expand your knowledge of the thyroid and parathyroid glands
- Master key components of anatomy and physiology to support classification assignment
- Identify anatomic and physiologic keys that affect AHA Coding Clinic Guidelines, RAC denials and physician documentation variances
- Increase your coding accuracy under ICD-9 and prepare for the transition to ICD-10
This is webcast #3 in a 3-part Anatomy & Physiology Coding series.
