Readmission rates per thousand patients discharged with heart failure increased by 11% between 1992 and 2001.1 The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will reduce Medicare payments to hospitals with high heart failure readmission rates. More than ever, its important that you master your coding skills to decrease your facilitys exposure to RAC denials.

During this webcast hosted by congestive heart failure coding expert Jean Ann Hartzell-Minzey, RHIA, CPC, CHA, you will:

  • Learn to interpret and understand physician documentation so you can assign the correct principal or secondary diagnosis and codes
  • Identify key query opportunities for heart failure coding, including systolic and diastolic, acute vs. chronic, congestive heart failure, hypertensive heart disease and cardiomyopathy
  • Address incomplete or conflicting documentation
  • Receive instruction on ICD-9 to ICD-10 code assignments

This is webcast #3 in a 3-part Inpatient Case Study series.
